From idea to finished helmet: how a custom racing helmet is made
A custom helmet is not a sticker kit or a standard design with your name on it. This is how FreVyDesigns turns an idea into a helmet no one else wears, step by step.

Every racing helmet begins with an idea. Sometimes it is a clear picture: national colours, a team livery, a number that has to stand out. Sometimes it is just a feeling: "aggressive", "clean", "something with gold". Both are a good place to start. At FreVyDesigns, design and paintwork happen under one roof, so the person who designs your helmet is also the person who paints it.
The five steps
- Idea: we start from your style, your preferences and your visual identity. Colours, racing class, sponsors, a name or number, references you like.
- Design: the idea is translated into a unique helmet design. Before any work starts, you get the chance to check the design, and work only begins once you have approved it.
- Preparation: the helmet is checked and carefully prepared for paint. Not every helmet is suitable. If the shell is damaged or badly worn, you hear about it before anything is done.
- Paintwork: the design is built up layer by layer. Base coat, colours, line work and effects such as metallic flakes, gradients or airbrush.
- Final finish: a clear coat brings everything together. The helmet is checked once more and only goes back to you once the finish has cured enough for normal use.

Why design approval matters
Changing a design on screen is easy. Changing it once preparation has started, materials have been bought or parts have already been painted is not, and it can cost extra. That is what the approval step is for: take your time, check the colours, texts and logos, and only say yes when it feels right.
How long does it take?
Count on 4 to 6 weeks. Your slot in the schedule is reserved once the deposit has been received, and payment is by bank transfer. Planning for a new season or a specific race? Get in touch early, so there is time for both the design and the paintwork.

Bringing your own helmet
You can supply your own helmet. Make sure it is clean, free of personal items and complete with all its parts, and mention any earlier damage or repairs in advance. Ship it in sturdy packaging with plenty of protection.
